When recovering from the effects that drugs and alcohol have on the body, exercise may be the last thing we want to take part in. However, at Serenity Light Recovery, we understand that a holistic addiction recovery treatment approach, centered around health and wellness, can play an integral part in our efforts to stay sober. Studies have shown that adding an exercise regimen to addiction treatment can reinforce the recovery process. In early recovery, the body and mind crave the endorphins and dopamine that the body naturally produces to replace the depleted chemicals in the brain, as a result of addiction. Clients will experience the uplifting effects that exercise provides, in order to recharge the body’s needs. Because we believe in healing the mind, body, and spirit, we have a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor on staff to lead our clients in Recovery Fitness.

Yoga

Our yoga program is very eclectic, and we teach a combination of different types of yoga. from restorative yoga to energizing flow yoga. We have also created several healing and self-empowering sequences. Yoga is an important tool for anyone to have, as it links each movement to your breath leading you to self-discovery and peace.

  • Benefits – Studies have shown a healthy yoga practice can suppress addictive behaviors and replace with healthy habits, while restoring the brain’s dopamine functions to healthier levels.

Each individual will have the opportunity to sign up for 30-minute motivational personal training sessions throughout their stay in treatment. These sessions are focused on goal setting and individual evaluations to create a way to achieve realistic goals, and to put them into action with the guidance and support of their trainer.

  • Benefits – Our certified personal trainer strives to teach the importance of trust, accountability, positive self, and peer motivation, developing a healthy daily routine, creative problem solving, fresh new perspectives on health and nutrition, proper exercise form and technique, along with solid, consistent, an non-judgmental support.

Personal Training Sessions

Personal Training Sessions

Each individual will have the opportunity to sign up for 30-minute motivational personal training sessions throughout their stay in treatment. These sessions are focused on goal setting and individual evaluations to create a way to achieve realistic goals, and to put them into action with the guidance and support of their trainer.

  • Benefits – Our certified personal trainer strives to teach the importance of trust, accountability, positive self, and peer motivation, developing a healthy daily routine, creative problem solving, fresh new perspectives on health and nutrition, proper exercise form and technique, along with solid, consistent, an non-judgmental support.

Recovery Group Fitness Classes

Our group fitness classes inspire individuals to come together as a team, in order to motivate and empower each other to dig deeper and push harder to achieve their goals. Each 50-60-minute class will include goal setting, stretches, a warm up, a targeted muscle workout, and a cool down period with stretches.

Our goal for group fitness classes is to motivate our peers to come together and work as a team, in order to achieve their goals and teach the value of commitment. We will be incorporating balance, strength, and power training using various tools such as kettle bells, dumbbells, jump ropes, resistance bands, stability balls, medicine balls, bosu balls, and one’s own body weight


  • Benefits –  Group Fitness provides a safe outlet for stress, depression, fear and anger to be worked through using varying physical fitness activities. We incorporate nature’s healing environment, allowing clients to be creative in their group workouts and connecting to nature’s simple way of life.

  • Benefits – This time allows for our peers to partake in strength training and cardiovascular exercise, during recovery fitness hours. A recovery advocate will be present to assist at all times.
  • Equipment – We have wonderful equipment for our clients to use during this time! For example, we have a 5-50lb dumbbell set available, as well as 4 cardiovascular exercise machines: 2 treadmills, 1 stationary bike and 1 elliptical. We also have weight benches, a medicine ball set, and a designated stretching/abdominal workout station.

Free Gym Time

Allows individuals time to create their own routine and use healthy coping skills to free themselves from negative thoughts, feelings and/or actions. This is a wonderful way for individuals to put into action recovery tools that will promote success!

  • Benefits – This time allows for our peers to partake in strength training and cardiovascular exercise, during recovery fitness hours. A recovery advocate will be present to assist at all times.
  • Equipment – We have wonderful equipment for our clients to use during this time! For example, we have a 5-50lb dumbbell set available, as well as 4 cardiovascular exercise machines: 2 treadmills, 1 stationary bike and 1 elliptical. We also have weight benches, a medicine ball set, and a designated stretching/abdominal workout station.

Scheduled for twice a week, Guided Meditation classes are 1-hour teachings, coupled with in-class practice. Clients will be immersed with a host of different styles, types, and easy to learn techniques of meditation. Our patients will learn how to commit, develop, and nurture a daily time and place of meditation. The evidence behind guided meditation reveals a long list of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits that can be learned from meditation.

  • Benefits –  Guided meditation is extremely beneficial for several reasons; it helps teach mindfulness and brings about an individual’s connection to a power greater than themselves; aids in full body, mind, and spirit relaxation, and is an essential piece to opening the necessary doors to healing. We can use meditation as a gentle way to clear our minds from all the harmful internal and external noise. We use guided meditations, focusing on body sensations, thoughts, past experiences, etc., to begin experiencing emotions in a safe place.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is one of the many holistic methods that Serenity Light Recovery offers. Our on-staff Licensed Massage Therapist provides traditional massage therapy sessions utilizing the techniques of Swedish Relaxation, Deep Tissue, and Sports Massage with an optional aroma therapy. Massage therapy has a list of scientifically proven healing benefits. The benefits not only enhance physical wellbeing, but mental health as well.
