Veteran’s Program

Veteran Scholarship Program

Our veterans have served our country and fought for our freedom, and they deserve access to quality treatment. Traditional psychotherapy and treatment have shown to be ineffective in treating our veterans. Recent studies show that only 50% of veterans undergoing treatment show signs of long-term recovery. This number is staggering, which is why our team at Serenity Light Recovery is taking a deeper look at how we can be a part of the solution.

We understand that trauma often precedes an increase in substance use, and may be a result of trying to manage difficult emotions. In turn, when detoxing, the client’s withdrawal symptoms tend to exacerbate the PTSD symptoms, making it difficult to cope. This vicious cycle often leads to lesser outcomes and higher relapse rates in veterans. For this reason, it is crucial that treatment for veterans addresses both the substance use disorder, as well as trauma.

As part of our Veteran Scholarship Package, we offer a multitude of amenities:

  • Reduced rates
  • Private Suites that are service dog friendly
  • EMDR
  • Massage Therapy
  • Biosound and biofeedback
The National Institutes of Health estimate that, of the approximately 2+ million veterans returning from war, up to 20% suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

PTSD is characterized by three main symptoms:

  1. Recurring intrusive thoughts related to the trauma
  2. Avoidance of certain stimuli
  3. Physiological arousal such as hypervigilance, difficulty with sleep, irritability, and hyperactivity.

Treatment of Trauma: EMDR

At Serenity Light Recovery, we utilize EMDR to assist clients in breaking the bondage of their pasts. While at Serenity Light Recovery, you will have the option to utilize these EMDR services, as well as many others, so you can begin to heal from the inside out.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy created by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980’s aimed at healing and relieving the emotional distress that is related to experiencing traumatic events. As stated, trauma is stored on a neurological level and must be processed in the body and the mind. This therapy utilizes eye movements (bilateral stimulation) to desensitize traumatic material while reorganizing, integrating, and digesting the disturbing material. EMDR does not change the memory.
However, it can change your beliefs, feelings, and thoughts, regarding yourself and the memory. The parts that are productive and useful are incorporated, and what is not is discarded. For example, an abuse victim may start by believing, “I deserved it, and it’s my fault.” At the end of treatment, they may believe, “No one deserves this, I was only a child.”

This evidenced-based practice allows the past to be where it belongs, in the past, allowing the client to experience a sense of completion and control.

We value our veterans and are here to provide them with the evidence based treatment and programs we’ve created at Serenity Light Recovery. We would love to be a part of your journey today!
