Yoga and Meditation

Yoga

Studies have shown that a healthy yoga practice can suppress addictive behaviors and replace them with healthy habits while restoring the brain’s dopamine functions to healthier levels. At Serenity Light Recovery, we teach different types of yoga, including restorative and energizing flow yoga. Our amazing yoga teacher has also created several healing and self-empowering sequences. You’ll learn unique poses, breathing techniques, slow movements, and meditation.

Yoga can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle both in and out of treatment. The benefits are numerous and include increased cardiovascular and circulatory health and improved respiration. Because there is no equipment needed for yoga, this practice is one that you can carry with you once you leave SLR. People who regularly practice yoga often see an improvement in physical symptoms such as headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, blood sugar, bone density, and heart health as well as lung, cardiovascular, and nervous system function.

Meditation

Guided meditation classes at Serenity Light Recovery are fully integrated and scheduled twice a week for one-hour. There are a host of different styles, types, and techniques that you can immerse yourself in while you learn to develop and nurture a daily meditation practice. The evidence behind guided meditation supports a long list of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits.

Meditation helps teach mindfulness and brings about an individual’s connection to a power greater than themselves; it aids in full-body, mind, and spirit relaxation; and it’s an essential piece in making healing connections in the brain. At Serenity, we use guided meditation as a gentle way to clear our minds from harmful internal and external “noise” and getting comfortable with stillness.
