Recovery Fitness

Physical fitness is a crucial part of recovery — even if it’s the last thing you want to do while your body detoxes. In early recovery, the body and mind crave the endorphins and dopamine that comes with addiction, and exercise can fill that gap. Serenity Light Recovery has a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor on staff to provide our clients with a replenishing, nourishing recovery fitness program.

Personal Training Sessions

Our certified personal trainer strives to teach the importance of trust, accountability, positive thinking, and peer motivation. Here at Serenity, recovery fitness isn’t just about the physical exercise, but the connection of mind, body, and spirit. You’ll learn healthy habits and daily routines as well as creative problem solving while gaining a fresh new perspective on health and nutrition. In addition, you’ll learn how to use proper exercise forms and techniques while receiving stable, consistent, and non-judgmental support.

Each client will have the opportunity to sign up for 30-minute individual motivational training sessions throughout their stay in treatment. These sessions are focused on goal setting and involve evaluations to create ways to achieve realistic goals and to put them into action with the guidance and support of our personal trainer.

Group Fitness Classes

We also offer recovery group fitness classes, inspiring individuals to exercise together as a team and motivate each other to dig deeper and push harder to achieve their goals. Each hour-long class will include goal setting, stretching, a warm-up, targeted muscle workouts, and a cool down period with more stretching. In our group fitness classes, you may use tools such as:

  • Kettlebells
  • Dumbbells
  • Jump ropes
  • Resistance bands
  • Stability balls
  • Medicine balls
  • Bosu balls
  • Your own body weight

Free/Individual Gym Time

Using healthy coping skills such as exercise to free yourself from negative thoughts, feelings, and actions is encouraged at Serenity. You will be allowed access to our gym at designated times to partake in individual strength training and cardiovascular exercise, and a recovery advocate will be present at all times to assist if necessary.

We have excellent, varied equipment available in our gym for clients to use, including a 5-50 pound dumbbell set, two treadmills, one stationary bike, one elliptical, weight benches, a medicine ball set, and a designated stretching/abdominal training station.
